Cerbs in your Zone

Hades Star Elite - New Player Walkthrough - Cerb's in your Zone

Ah, the joy of revealing new sectors. One of the primary indications of how far you have progressed in Hades Star is the amount of hexes you have uncovered. New hexes reveal new planets. Each new sector means more available hydrogen spawn points. All in all, new sectors are gravy.

But wait. We are Space Invaders! Vicious pirates even, yarrrrr!

As you reveal new sectors, you will find hexes occupied by Cerberus forces. Some will have just cerb ships, and some will have cerb bases. You will have to destroy those alien forces in order to conquer these new sectors, thus expanding your stellar empire.

So, you found your first Cerberus base. What now?

The first cerb base is an easy win, if you play it smart and take your time. The first thing to do is audit your battleships. You will want two b'ships going in, each with Battery 1 and Alpha Shields 1.

If you don't have these unlocked, or are not confident in your ability to take out the Cerberus base station solo, there's a couple of alternatives:

If you ignored my advice and built a diplomacy station, your diplo partner or another player can destroy the base for you.

You don't need to destroy the Cerberus base right away. Cerb' bases only show up in empty hexes, so you can ignore them initially.

The second thing to do is to ignore the Cerberus base, and instead lure any cerb ships present out of the base's firing range. Deal with the ships, then allow your shields time to recover. Do any necessary battleship repairs, flying your BS to a colonized planet to do so.

Once your shields are ready to go, return your attention to the cerb base. For most of us, hit and run tactics are the best option. Fly in with your pair of battleships, with one BS leading by a second or 3. Activate both BS's shields while en route.

When your lead BS has sustained 1/2 to 2/3's shield damage, fly it to a waypoint out of range of the Cerberus base and then return it to the base. This is called 'forced target changing.' The cerb base, as a result, will switch to your other battleship as a target.

When the second battleship has sustained 1/2 to 2/3's shield damage, fly both battleships out of range of the base and allow your shields to recharge. Rinse, repeat, profit.

Now, it's entirely possible you will get lucky and an asteroid will spawn that it just outside of the firing range of the cerberus battle station. However, because this weak cerb base has a range of 100au and your battleships have a range of 120au, you will be safe but still able to attack.

If you get lucky like this, clear the cerb ships and then sit and fire until the enemy is in ruins.

Good luck Commander.
